Project Detail
Being able to act quickly in times of disaster, establish proper coordination, and immediately meet needs is one of our strongest competencies at Ahbap. Since the Elazığ earthquake, we have been on the ground with our volunteers in every disaster our country has experienced; we identified needs on the spot, stood by the local community, and fostered solidarity.
Now, we are taking this field strength one step further with the Disaster Bike project, implemented in collaboration with ETİ. The Disaster Bike is an environmentally friendly, innovative, and low-cost field solution developed to enable rapid movement over short distances without the need for vehicles, especially in the first hours of a disaster. These bicycles will accelerate reconnaissance and observation efforts in the initial phase and facilitate the delivery of basic necessities such as water, food, and hygiene supplies in the ongoing process.
Thanks to the Disaster Bicycle, our volunteers will be able to perform more effectively under disaster conditions and respond more quickly to field needs. The project also aims to make disaster volunteering more accessible and sustainable, contributing to the spread of disaster awareness in society.
Disaster Bikes will be actively used not only during disasters but also in our social benefit-focused activities throughout the year. This will strengthen the presence of our volunteers in the field and make the culture of solidarity more visible and sustainable.
Disaster-Resistant, Modular, and Durable Design
The Disaster Response Bike is specially designed to move safely and quickly in challenging field conditions. Thanks to its wide, knobby tires, hybrid electric assist system, durable frame, and modular transport units, volunteers will be able to work efficiently in the field.
The bikes will be located in Ahbap's main warehouses and in strategic provinces in seven regions of Turkey. In the event of a disaster, the nearest bicycles will be quickly delivered to the area and integrated into the field.
Outside of disaster situations, Disaster Bicycles will continue to be used in social benefit projects run with the support of ETİ, becoming a powerful field tool that is environmentally conscious, encourages movement, and represents solidarity.
