Shelter Volunteers

We aim to observe and report on the living conditions of animals in shelters, improve animal welfare, and support the adoption process.

Project Detail

The Shelter Volunteers Project was established by Ahbap Association to observe, report on, and improve the living conditions of animals in shelters, enhance animal welfare, and support the adoption process.
In 2025, the project was carried out in 8 pilot provinces with the participation of specially selected volunteers. Within this scope, the physical conditions of the shelters, the health and care processes of the animals, their nutrition levels, cleaning practices, and general welfare were carefully evaluated.
This work is an important part of Ahbap's sustainable and solution-oriented approach in the field of animal rights.

Visit Planning

The locations of shelters in the 8 pilot provinces and their public visiting hours were determined and shared with the relevant volunteer groups and city representatives.
Based on this information, a visit schedule was created in coordination with city representatives and shelter volunteers, and this schedule was carried out in accordance with the Project & Event Regional Representation.
All visits were conducted during the public hours determined by the municipalities; during this time, the general order of the shelters, the quality of care, and the condition of the animals were observed and recorded.
The health status of the animals, the cleanliness of their living areas, their access to food and water, and the physical conditions of the paddocks were evaluated in detail.
Cleaning activities conducted in cold weather conditions, animal washing, and any noticeable issues were specifically reported.

Project Results and Impact Area

The physical conditions of the shelters, the number of animals, their health status, feeding schedule, paddock cleanliness, and security situation have been reported in detail. The reports prepared were sent to the municipalities or institutions responsible for the shelters by Ahbap Association in a formal letter, and cooperation was offered. After the initial visits, volunteers returned to the shelters with food support to observe whether any improvements had been made and prepared their second evaluation reports.

As a result of these efforts:
  • In over 100 shelters,
  • the condition of nearly 15,000 animals has been observed;

Volunteer support has been provided in line with the permissions granted for the socialization, feeding, cleaning, and care processes of the animals.

The Shelter Volunteers Project has been one of the most comprehensive field studies undertaken by the Ahbap Association in the field of animal rights. With its measurable, reportable structure that prioritizes cooperation with public institutions, it has made a significant contribution to improving animal welfare across the country.

Thanks to the dedicated support of our volunteers:
  • The needs in shelters have been made visible,
  • Solution processes have been initiated through institutional reporting,
  • Concrete steps have been taken to improve the living conditions of tens of thousands of lives.
  • Animal Welfare
